How to Clean a Drain Pan on an RV AC

RV air conditioning units go through a bit more than regular units, mainly because they are mobile. They come in contact with more dust and weather conditions while sitting on top of the RV. It is best to clean these units up every once in a while to keep them running for a longer period of time. This doesn’t take a lot of time and is worth it in the end.

How to Clean a Drain Pan on an RV AC

Instructions:

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:
  • Wet-dry vac
  • Rags
  • Screwdriver

Step 1

Climb up on the roof to get to the air conditioner. Remove the outer cover of the unit, which is called the shroud. Use a screwdriver.

Step 2

Take off the inside cover if you don’t see the draining pan when you take off the shroud. This cover conceals the evaporator coil.

Step 3

Vacuum the drain pan out to remove debris and water. Use a wet-vac for this. You can also use the vacuum hose to suck out the end of drain line to remove any clogs.

Step 4

Wipe off the coils and pan with a damp rag.

Step 5

Put the covers back in place.
